🌿 Artist’s Biography and Statement
🌍 A Life of Travel and Education
I spent many years on the West Coast of the USA I lived and worked in Indonesia for three years, lived and worked in the United Kingdom and Nicaragua for a year and have visited many other countries around the world. I have worked as classroom teacher, as a director of numerous educational programs and as a university adjunct instructor, and full-time college professor. A few years ago, I launched my own educational consulting enterprise, Educational Concepts. I am now mostly retired.
❤️ A Life Rich with Love, Loss, and Spirit
I am a long-time lover of the arts now living in South Florida. Indeed, I have many loves, my two children, Mariama and Armand Butte (both of whom have passed away) my friends and family, the visual arts classical and choral music, poetry, and the natural world, Currently I am singing in a large community choir, writing, painting and working against all odds to keep my body from decomposing. I have been a member of Subud, a spiritual association and my path for fifty years. When asked I say “I owe my life to Subud.”
🎨 The Beginning of My Artistic Path
My watercolor painting began in 2008 as the result of dealing with breast cancer and of an inner spiritual push. A beautiful Colombian psychic whom I saw for healing recommended that I change my life and begin to make use of a talent she felt I had in my hands—which confirmed something I was already feeling inside. This was a bit surprising as I had been thrown out of art class when I was very young because the teacher deemed I was too talkative! Luckily, I have found an art teacher and art class where my chatter and singing were happily appreciated. I am drawn to painting landscapes, landscapes that for one reason speak to me and I have experimented with abstract watercolor paintings. I have created a catalog of matted prints of original watercolors painted from 2010 to 2025.

My paintings make me happy and peaceful when I paint them and hopefully, make others happy and peaceful when they view them!
